Summary: A US research station, Antarctica, early-winter 1982. The base is suddenly buzzed by a helicopter from the nearby Norwegian research station. They are trying to kill a dog that has escaped from their base. After the destruction of the Norwegian chopper the members of the US team fly to the Norwegian base, only to discover them all dead or missing. They do find the remains of a strange creature the Norwegians burned. The Americans take it to their base and deduce that it is an alien life form. After a while it is apparent that the alien can take over and assimilate into other life forms, including humans, and can spread like a virus. This means that anyone at the base could be inhabited by The Thing, and tensions escalate.

    Classic movie.. great post..

    Short Summary of releases
    2008 (US) VC-1 @ 18.1 Mbps (Universal Bluray) = The worst
    2016 (US) MPEG-4 @ 35.0 Mbps (Shout F. 2K Scan-RM) = The Best
    2017 (UK) MPEG-4 @ 29.9 Mbps (Arrow 4K Scan-RM) = 2nd Best
    2018 (US) MPEG-4 @ 35.0 Mbps (Shout F. 4K Scan-RM) = 3rd Best

I personally prefer the SF 2K Scan as the best, it has better colors, contrast and better detail, the SF 4K Scan and Arrow 4K remasters both are almost identical and have a blue tint to the colors, the Arrow 4K is better as its slightly better definition and has approx. 2 pixels more in picture frame.

Thanks Bill, I tried the 2016 2K scan as you suggested and it truly is the best version of The Thing I have ever seen. I really appreciate the suggestion!
